Okay, that’s funny.
I don’t know much about Joel, does he preach a lot of that ” God wants you to be rich and happy and have no problems stuff”?
Joel Osteen is of the new positivism teachers who really teaches a gospel of narcissism which is to me is the apostasy of the last days, you can see my brief thoughts on this in the article “Would the Real Apostasy Please Stand Up?”
I can’t really go into Osteen too much for personal reasons, but I have read his book “Your Best Life Now” after it first was released and my circle of friends raved about it. One Place runs the White Horse Inn apologetics program and last weeks was on Osteen, I won’t listen to this particular program so you listen and please come back and leave your thoughts here: http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/The_White_Horse_Inn/archives.asp?bcd=2008-1-20
I need to add though, I know a mother whose daughter is dealing with leukemia and Joel Osteen’s messages have been a comfort to her and have helped her stay strong and positive and I don’t want to diminish that in anyway. I think the impact of the messages impact the general state of the heart. If one is a narcissist then odds are his teachings will feed that, if you are not and are struggling certainly the impact will be quite a bit different. I tend to think this is more to do with motivational psychology and his soft spoken, big smile presentation which has ease and comfort written all over it.
Thanks,
Jim
Hey, you must know Ibrahim. He emailed me the pic and I posted it on my blog too. I hope that is ok. I’ll add a link to your blog for proper credit.
